Two of the greatest writers to hit the Comic Book World in a long time have taken their time to enlighten us fans on their hit title, the New Mutants. They have also given you die hard fans a look into their writings outside of Marvel. If you love these two writers you will want to pick up these great titles too.
interview:
Iceman: * I know most fans have been eagerly awaiting the next issue of New Mutants due out a while ago, can you give us a definite date of release?
ND: * We've been told a lot of things. Earlier this week, we were told this week and that didn't happen. But the latest word from Marvel matches the latest word from Diamond. New Mutants #8 will be out on February 11th, with #9 right after that. If all goes well, #10 & #11 should follow one week after the other. But we figure there may be a week off or two somewhere in there. Still, the book should be back on schedule for the reunion and then the Reload in May.
Iceman: * Why did you guys lose Magma, because at first I thought she was supposed to be your character? Does C.C. just have that much pull, he says "I want her" and Marvel says "okay"?
ND: * That's a common theory, but it really wasn't Chris' doing in any way. It was part of a general push from editorial to shift the book's focus onto the newer characters. When we started to write the second arc, we were told to cut both Rahne and Amara (we had plans for both, but neither had been a real factor yet). We argued, and the best we got was to keep one of the two. We had bigger plans for Rahne and decided to keep her. Then - and only then - is when Chris Claremont came in. He had heard about the change and pounced on the character of Amara, which actually made us happy. It kept her out of character limbo, and put her back in the hands of her creator.
Iceman: * Can you give us any information on the upcoming titles before the Reunion oneshot?
ND: * Yeah. With the changes to Issues 8 & 9, things have juggled a bit. The storylines for that two parter are now going to come out in Issue 8, which is entitled "Parents Week." Issue 9 brings Rahne back to the school and also shows our kids tracking down a homeless mutant in Salem Center. These two storylines dominate the rest of the arc, though there's a change of pace in Issue 11 that we think fans will like.
Iceman: * With the Reload coming up is the lineup for your Marvel characters going to change any?
CW: * Yes. But we're not saying who. Though none of our kids are leaving.
Iceman: * What cast members are you planning on using for your upcoming Reunion one-shot story arc?
ND: * Amara, Roberto and Sam return to the mansion (what's left of it after Planet X) and meet up with Dani, Shan and Rahne.
Iceman * Which members are exclusively C.C.'s and do you plan on using them in the near future for other story arcs?
CW: * Amara, Roberto and Sam are all under Chris' control right now. We don't have any other future plans for them at this time, but you never know when guest cameos will pop up. Chris has been really good about lending them to us this time, so anything's possible.
Iceman: * What will this story be centered around? Will it be the "old" New Mutants helping the "new" New Mutants adjust to life after Planet X or will it revolve mainly around Moonstar and her comrades?
ND: * There's not a lot of the new kids in this one issue. Some, but not a lot. This is about a group of friends who went to a school, who come together after that school has been destroyed. They each have their own reactions to this. A lot of it is about our three characters (Dani, Shan and Rahne) and how they're coping, not just with the events of Planet X, but with the events of our second arc. And the other three arrive, which makes the coping a little easier, but makes the nostalgia for the destroyed school a little stronger.
CW: * But of course, no one's ever allowed to wallow for too long. They'll have to deal with a surprise villain.
here are the Oni titles that you die hard fans will want to check out:

ONCE IN A BLUE MOON: An ongoing series of graphic novels, Once In A Blue Moon is a coming-of-age fantasy story about a teenage girl named Aeslin Finn who discovers a fantasy book from her childhood. She used to be read from this book all the time as a kid before her father died, and when he did, the stories stopped and she never found out what happened to the magical kingdom of Avalon. When she finds the book, she discovers the kingdom is under the control of an evil sorceror and wishes - for a moment - that she could be the Dragon Knight who saves the kingdom. And in that moment, she is transported to Avalon, where she discovers she must find the last Dragon, save the kingdom, and make it home in time for her math test. The first of the graphic novels will be released in April 2004. The art is by Jennifer Quick (Soul Union).

THE TOMB: The Tomb is a haunted house story with elements of an Indiana Jones style adventure. It's the story of archaeologist Jessica Parrish, a washed up Indiana Jones wannabe, and tabloid reporter Max Kelleher, who together lead an expedition into a mansion in Massachussets where the last owner was said to have decked out the place like an Egyptian tomb. They're in search of artifacts stolen from the King Tut expedidition, but they find the house is not empty and once they get inside, they can't get out. It is an original graphic novel slated for release in July 2004, with art by Christoper Mitten (Last Exit Before Toll).
