Namor joined the X-Men three years ago. Would you consider him an X-Men character now? Or do you still view him as a regular marvel hero who just happens to be hanging out with X-Men, like Carol Danvers?

Do I see him as someone who has a deep-seated belief that the over-arching philosophy of the X-Men is correct and that he's there purely on the basis of his genetic structure and fervent belief in the afore-mentioned core philosophy? No.

Do I see him as someone who is making a political relationship to secure his own throne and ensure support should things go south for the Atlanteans? Yes.

I don't see him as someone who has the potential to be a mainstay on the team. I think he's similar to Mystique, but without the deadly underlying motives-- He's there for as long as it's beneficial for him to be there, but as soon as he gets the feeling that he's getting less out of the deal than he thinks he should be, he'll be out of there.

I agree with this.

While I wouldn't consider him an X-Character (Like Carol Danvers, and even Northsta) but I do consider him an official X-Man, since clearly Cyclops does as well as seemingly Emma and Storm.

Yep pretty much see him like the rest said. He's an official X-Man at the moment, but not a long-term X-Character. Spent most of his existence in the rest of the MU and isn't with the X-Men because he believes in the dream or their goals or in really doing anything for mutants. He's there for what works for him and his kingdom and for Emma, to get in her pants or well lack of pants.

I'm betting that soon enough he'll be back to being just on Defenders or part of the Avengers again or such.

I'm still waiting for the Namor Vs. Cyclops that is bound to happen down the road. Like it was said above he wont make a move until things are politically and physically stable for him to do so. Either it will happen if Emma makes a mistake with Namor or it will happen because Namor has no chance, he seems to be just bidding his time til ultimate battle time!

I grew up thinking Namor was strictly an Avengers character because I'd mainly only read my dad's old comics. I honestly had no idea that he had ties to so many other families of characters, so for me it seems pretty natural that he's joined the X-Men because he's a mutant Atlantean with the winged feet.

Do I think of him as an X-Character? No more than I think of him as an Avenger or a Fantastic Four ally/foe. He's the anti-hero Peter Parker of the Marvel Universe.

I don't really consider him an X-Man at the moment. I know he is officially but I don't put him in the same league as Rogue, Storm or even Emma. Emma Frost has only really become an X-Man recently in my eyes. I was thinking about it the other days...she joined the XMen back in 2001 and it's taken her 10 years to become an XMan.
Namor needs to stick around for a long time and really integrate himself into the team. Need needs to have stories that take place in the main titles that don't revolve around him trying to get in Emma's costume/underwear. The trouble is with him he is such a high profile character who has had a long tenure on other teams it's hard to really call him an XMan.
I can see Marvel keeping him around for a while yet. Him last solo series crashed and burned so he isn't about to go off on his own adventures anytime soon. The only thing I can see happening is him going off to the Defenders.....but again I don't give this title long. I can see Namor staying around for a long time purely because it guarentees him a monthly book.

Namor has now been on all the big teams

Invaders
Defenders
Fantastic Four
Avengers
X-Men

He is not an X-Character. I can easily imagine him being classed on the side of any of the others though (Avengers is more a stretch) so given time? maybe

Emma's been involved with the X-Men as a hero since the mid 90s amd did join the Official X-Men in 01. But id say shes been seen as a good x-character longer than a year. Does that mean that Storm and Wolveribe werent X-men until 85? Lol

Namor is not an X-character but he's an X-man.  Or at least he is until Marvel decides to finally pull the trigger on a Namor movie, at which point Namor will ditch the X-Men so fast that he'll leave a Namor-shaped dust cloud that will linger for at least two issues.

Damn right Tongue
But seriously when it comes to other like Storm and Wolverine they had no exposure (OK Wolvie did a little) and they joined with no tags attached. Emma Frost joined the XMen and she still had the "White Queen" tag to her.....lots of X-Men still treated her as a villian and an outsider. I feel it's taken pretty much 10 years for the writers to drop the ex-villian stuff. It obviously still gets referenced but I certainly see her now as a hero and an X-Woman.
Namor however I don't. To me his history with the Invaders/Avengers/Defenders/F4 is so prominant he feels like a guest in the titles. As I said give it time. Let him get a few stories under his belt and a few decent years of being on the main X-Men team and I am sure he will feel more like an X-Man.

I get the same feeling with Magneto. He just doesn't feel like an X-Man. His reputation is so big and apparent it's hard to take his seriously when he is being a hero. Which is odd because his last real "big bad" moment was way back in the 2000/01 with the Eve of Destruction stuff. For most of the 90's and 00's he was an ominous presence and a cautionary tale. He was still technically a bad guy but he stopped trying to take of the world and stuff. Now he is a good guy I am having trouble accepting it. 50 years of Magneto being the X-Men's #1 villain and now he is lecturing Psylocke on secrets.....doesn't sit right with me.

That sums up Magneto and Namor for me I think. They have that 'guest' air about them, albeit long term guests. While I like Magneto there and he is an X-Character we all know it's only a matter of time before he moves back to being a 'bad' guy. Since the movies focus on him as the bad guy and their doing a First Class sequel in the next year or two where it'll have him on the 'bad' side.

Namor is a long term guest that will leave at some point I'm quite sure. Like was mentioned his only real storylines are that he's trying to get into Emma's pants and is only there to help because it gives a home for his people at the moment and he wants to get into Emma's formerly pants as stated before. That's about it. No one really spends anytime doing anything really with him even as a star of one of the books. I actually wouldn't be surprised if his time with the X-Men ended with AvX since his loyalties might lean more towards the Avengers side because the only thing that the X-Men have is the column under the island where his people live but they could create a new home almost anywhere if they so chose too.

I love him with the Xers and the fact that he is a mutant... but he is not a "X-Character"
he's a Marvel.

I guess you could turn this around and ask are Beast or Wolverine Avengers characters? I think the majority of us would say no. We would say that they are Avengers though. I think the same applies to Namor. He is an X-man, but because of his vast history, he could never be listed as an X-Character until he's been with the X-Men for a long time.

Curiously, I went to look up Namor's charactor glossary on UXN, to see if they had him classed as an X-man, and I found he isn't on the glossary.

Jeeze can you imagine that spotlight. The guy as over 70 YEARS of material. It would be almost as bad as a Wolverine spotlight.
That is another thing to mention aswell. Namor has been around for 70 years and in that he has been an X-Man for all of two of them. It's not as if he had much of a tie to the team before that. He was always rumoured to be a mutant but no-one ever confirmed. Then all of a sudden he is officially declared the first mutant and put on the team. At least Magneto and Emma had their ties to the X-teams so when they joined it wasn't such a culture shock in a way. We were already aware of much of their history. The only thing casual x-readers would know Namor from is maybe the odd crossover or cameo.
Look at the stories he has been involved in whilst being here. Within the main Uncanny title or any of the other ongoings his history hasn't really been touched upon much. A new reader who had never heard of him beforehand wouldn't have a clue as to the relevance of this guy. The most interesting things that have happened to him since he joined have taken plave in one-shot, mini-series and his own series. The writers need to start putting these events in the main titles that people actually read.

Namor was involved in Utopia arc. He participated in Second Coming. I mean what other big event besides Schism, was he not involved in that occurred in a main title? Having things happen in his own series shouldn't be a negative, it isn't for Wolverine LOL

I've never really cared for Namor as a charecter and I've alwaya thought of him as being more in the Fantastic Four world. While Namor v Cyclops will be cool, the sooner he's back hanging out underwater with the little mermaid & out of X-Books the better.

No, not an X-Man.

He's lame and his role here doesn't seem to make much sense. Editorial should have tried work him into a book that made sense if they really felt he could really help move books. F4 makes the most sense. His presence in X-Men is just irritating.

don't care much for namor at all.... he is now - since utopia - an x-man as it does make a lot of sense for his people - both ways.... that's it. as well -as can be seen in his involvement during SC and in the extinction team - his ego is well treated in some ways....  as for the emma-scott-love-triangle, if there is NOT something particularly edgy going on during AvX - probably namor could be one of the changing-sides-characters?! - I hope it shall be dropped.....
on a sidenote -maybe he is just still on a team because of his sort of "royalty" - as one could see storm and magneto.
let the play begin

I think Namor in the X-books is more novelty than anything else. It's like Spider-Man as an Avenger, or Beast as an Avenger. I don't see Namor being a permanent edition.
