I don't see him as someone who has the potential to be a mainstay on the team. I think he's similar to Mystique, but without the deadly underlying motives-- He's there for as long as it's beneficial for him to be there, but as soon as he gets the feeling that he's getting less out of the deal than he thinks he should be, he'll be out of there.

Agreed. There's always an ulterior motive to Namor's actions. He has never been a team player so to be associated with the X-Men only goes to serve some purpose of his. When that purpose is fulfilled or he senses that for whatever reason, the X-Men cannot or will not fulfill it, then he will leave.
