Heh.  I liked X-Treme X-men for I think the first 24 issues or so. But back then there were only 4 books to choose from.  Wonder what the premise is.

Well as long as Claremont isn't writing it...

But then again, might we have found the Bendis X-Book? Hmm...If so, hopefully a bunch of characters I don't like will go on it, that way when they all develop the same personality, I won't mind as much.

Oh thank god......I was getting a little tired of the X-men line being so sparse......

But in all seriousness I am curious as to the nature of this title. The last X-treme X-men was about a group of self-exiled mutants.....so maybe the same theme will be here. X-men who need to go underground for a while.
Or considering we have no title for the 5 lights now maybe this is something to do with them.....a replacement for Generation She-Cable.

OH GOD CLAREMONT IS RETURNING, IT'S THE END OF THE UNIVERSE AS WE KNOW IT! RUN FOR THE HILLS! PROTECT YOUR COMICS BY TAKING UP ARMS! WOMEN AND CHILDREN OUT LAST, FAN BOYS FIRST! ANARCHY! ANARCHY!

:p Since I know so many will assume that, now it's out of the way.

Wonder as well if this is the Bendis book, but not sure as it starts before AvX is even over with. Perhaps it's something that grows out of the middle of the event I suppose, though you don't regularly see books coming out of the middle of an event. We can be certain though that it will be something different than what X-Books there are now since you don't just choose X-Treme for no reason.

And now, for a different brand of cynicism... I wonder which X-Book is getting canceled in June, then.

Generation Hope is getting cancelled in May...

I'm just bringing up Claremont because I hope by clamoring for him, he won't return. It's reverse psychology...not cynicism LOL

If there was to be another X-Book getting the can for this one, I'd put my money on New Mutants or X-Men as the lower sellers. I could say possibly X-Men Legacy as the book hasn't been as huge as it once was in some time even when Carey was there at the end.

I'd say that X-Factor (being the niche it is), Uncanny X-Force, Uncanny X-Men, and Wolverine and the X-Men are safe if there is to be something canceled.

Let's see, they cancelled Generation Hope.

Astonishing X-Men
New Mutants
Uncanny X-Force
Uncanny X-Men
Wolverine and the X-Men
X-Factor
X-Men
X-Men Legacy
X-Treme X-Men

We, um, we have too many X-Titles for this.

This is clearly the Bendis title, right? It has to be. Bendis takes over the X-Men. New X-Men title. Bam.

That means that Gischler's X-Men has to be on the block. They can't piss of Marjorie Liu. They're clearly grooming her at Marvel, so she'll be on Astonishing for at least one arc. Maybe two. So, Astonishing is safe. But Victor Gishler's X-Men has no real fans to speak of. No die hard fans. If we enjoy the book, it's not because it's an essential piece of writing. I mean, X-Men is Cyclops' Away Team, right? Shouldn't New Mutants be his Loose Ends team? If they're not, then New Mutants will be on the block soon too.

I think it's pretty clear at this point that the X-Franchise has created more beloved characters than pretty much any other franchise in the MU. Or more accurately, the X-Franchise has created more possibilities for team dynamics. The Avengers was an assemblage of characters.

What is the purpose of these books...

Astonishing X-Men exists to be a creator-driven take on the X-Men. Whedon brought it to life. Ellis almost brought it to the ground. A totally ruinous run. I wish that Chris Yost's First to Last arc on X-Men was done on Astonishing because it fits more the bill for this book. And now Marjorie Liu. Is there a reason for this book to exist? No. Is it kinda nice? Sure.

Generation Hope filled the Young/New X-Men spot. And now it's cancelled. You could make the argument that this was a book that was somewhat essential to show how the next generation of X-Men. We don't have that anymore now.

New Mutants exists for two purposes: 1) To give Cyclops and Away Team. 2) To fulfill nostalgia purposes for those who love the old book. And Zeb Wells did a great job of making the book seem more than completing nostalgia prerequisites. It was a great read. Now it's flagging a bit, but they are still completing away missions.

Uncanny X-Force - Wolverine's secret assassins team.

Uncanny X-Men - Cyclops' Utopia team.

Wolverine and the X-Men - best book on the market.

X-Factor - Peter David awesomeness.

X-Men - now, this is Cyclops' Loose Ends team as well, but there doesn't seem to be enough reason for it to exist. As I said before, it's finest hour was when Victor Gischler wasn't writing it. I can't see it lasting terribly much longer and it shouldn't.

X-Men: Legacy - Rogue's Teaching Staff book. In theory, it exists to give a voice to the younger students as well as keep Rogue in play as a leader figure. I like that, and although the first arc of Gage's run isn't terribly special, it does have a purpose. As a book, X-Men Legacy has been running for some 55 issues. So there is a base of support here.

X-Treme X-Men - to give Bendis an X-Book. Shouldn't that be Astonishing X-Men though? A creator-driven book?

There are redundancies in Astonishing X-Men, New Mutants, X-Men, X-Men: Legacy, and X-Treme X-Men. My solution is to have Bendis write Astonishing, kill X-Men, and tell New Mutants and X-Men: Legacy to shape up or ship out.

For reference the estimates for February...

Uncanny X-Men #7  ~58k
WATXM #6 ~54k
UXF #22 ~48.5k
X-Men #25 ~35.5k
X-Men Legacy #262 ~35.5k
Astonishing X-Men #47 ~30k
X-factor #232 ~23.5k
NM #38 ~22k
Gen Hope #15 ~19k (this one was taken from January because they only calculated the top 100 for feb)

The danger books are X-factor and New Mutants. Both are on a gentle side down into cancellation territory. However I don't see either being given the chop for thee X-treme X-men title. PAD has said he is sticking around for a while and the NM are about to do the Journey into the Mystery crossover. Honestly I think both these titles could have done with the sales spikes that come from tiring into events. The writers may not like doing it but those numbers are not healthy.
I am afirly confident that the X-treme X-Men will have something to do with the younger kids.

It'll be to replace Generation Hopeless. If this is a Hope-less title, I'm in, if just for the nostalgia. I'm thinking this is either Dazzler/student-based, or maybe going to be a Thunderbolts-esque X-title... showing people like Random, Dragoness etc, striving to be X-Men. Maybe even under new identities?

I'm thinking maybe Astonishing may be going. The X-Franchise loses the least with its removal.

Doubting it will be Astonishing as they've been hyping Liu's run and she's on record with having a couple of arcs going for her and Marvel is pushing issue #51 around that time as something special with the "Save the Date" thing.

Most likely as people said this will just replace Generation Hope. New Mutants is always close to cancellation but they'll probably wait to see how it's crossover does and if that bumps numbers up or not. X-Factor has almost always been sort of low selling but Marvel sticks behind it and PAD so it probably won't go anywhere.

It's not far off until X-factor reaches it's 100th issue of the PAD run. Once it hits 250 I wouldn't be surprised if it were rebooted.

Is it possible that this could be the Dazzler team that we have yet to see? Lifeguard is even on that team!

Or maybe its just a bunch of Avengers trolling the X-men after they win in AvX.

Possibly Dazzler but I doubt it. A Dazzler led book with the youths of Utopia sounds fun and good but I doubt that Marvel would bank on it that much to make a big annoucement. Dazzler isn't one of their top selling characters and to them neither are the New X-Men left there.

It could be Avengers mixed with X-Men, but for some reason I'm doubting that right now only cause this debuts mid AvX so it's not even at the end where a winner would be clear.

Lately the DnA's NM title has been on the slight upswing and I doubt AXM or Legacy would get cancelled. Legacy was the other title that started that surge in the 90s, but with the recent disregard for numbering...things can be up in the air.

But it makes sense that this replaces Generation Hope(less). If the deal's to replace one title with another, then we've got it sorted out already haven't we?

I'm postulating that, due to the events of AvX, Wolverine will be rethinking the UXF hit squad and - from his perspective - call it quits. The book continues on as Xtreme X-Men, led by Psylocke, and the team goes around kicking ass.

Hmm that could work. Though I think Uncanny X-Force will still be in mid Final Execution storyline come July.

The fact that this book is coming right around the mid-point of Avx makes it harder to figure out where it's going cause #6 (0f 12) of AvX comes out in June. So something huge must happen at that halfway point that leads to a new book coming out. Only reasoning I can figure for it being so secretive and a big reveal for the weekend.

I'm hoping that it's a literal title with the team led by Adam-X the Xtreme.

When Generation Hope was canceled everyone here was saying we need a new title to feature the x-kids. now everyone is saying we have too many x-titles. Now we dont know what this book will be about yet but I just dont think most on this forum can ever actually be happy. I for one am always happy for more x-books. bring it on.
