I just watched the first episode. It was cool they had some awesome voice cameos but overall I found it to be overwhemingly inferior to Spectacular Spider-Man. Writing, plotting, character design, animation - Spectacular Spidey was better in almost every possible way. Not sure WTH Marvel and Disney were thinking on this one.
Incredibly disappointing. Also, except for Spidey's age, it had almost ZERO resemblance to the Ultimate Spiderman comic, not even in tone. Which is wierd because I thought Bendis was supposed to be involved in the making of the show. But if he was, he decided to completely take it in another direction. Oh and also Paul Dini, who I generally love, did the writing. I don't get it. I may give it another shot to see if it improves, but so far, not a fan. Edited by Anna Raven - 03-Apr-2012 at 4:51am |

Yeah unlike WatX Spectacular was made by Disney so I'm not sure why they traded it out...
Compared to Avengers (which was so awesome), it just didn't stand up to be anything awesome. |

On the first part, will agree with but we're only two episodes into this, so we'll see. The level of manga/anime-style goofiness is higher here than in Spectacular which is off-setting to a degree. Which leads to the second part, didn't know this was supposed to be some cartoon adaption of Ultimate, just thought it was named to differentiate the series from other Spidey cartoons. Liked the voice actors (Chi McBride the most), but don't know about putting Peter with a New Warriors type team. Putting them in school with Peter is also pushing it some as well (Temporary Principal Coulson is part of the anime-inspired goofiness, see above) Liked the Spider Bike but not as cool as the Spider-Mobile. Will keep watching just to see where this thing is going, if anywhere. |

Iv'e just seen the first episode, but I don't think it was that bad! Sure, Avengers is far superior and this is a lot more kid friendly. But for what it is I think they are doing a good job. Good animations, some crazy stuff that is fun and J.K Simmons! If i was a kid (you know a real kid, just not an adult who plays games, watch cartoons and read comics all day) i would have loved this. With this and Avengers, I would say it's very nice to be a kid, Marvel cartoon vise. Could be the new Spider-Man and X-men we saw in the 90's.

I actually didnt really likecthe 90s Spider-man cartoon that much. It was far too censor for me as a kid. Especially considering Batman TAS was around.

When the series premiered I was like 10 and was already reading comics (I had already read Batman the Dark Knight Returns and been into the X-Men for about 2-3 years)...so not it wasn't "I need more gore". It was more like "hey why didn't Spider-Man punch that guy?" Or "why does everybody have fancy-smancy laser guns but nobody gets hit". And again when you compare that to the Batman TAS (or the X-Men series) that was around at the same time this show was clearly neutered by Fox. They even stated that parenting groups gave them a list of things they couldn't do on the show. |

I would say that with this show together with Avengers and the behind-the-scenes snippets, I enjoyed the Marvel Universe block of cartoons more than the DC Nation block.

Such a shame. I was looking forward to this thinking it would be good, but it's just too darn cartoony. The wall of shame, the really child like moments just are eh. Spectacular Spider-Man was far superior and would have fit much better with Avengers EMH in vibe. This is like watching Seasame Street and then watching a show closer to prime time that kids can still watch.
They all go to school with Peter....ugh. Why can't we just get a show about Spider-Man in school saving the day, teaming up from time to time with others. Why do a show called Ultimate Spider-Man and make it a team show? Why not do 'New Warriors' or 'Young Allies' or something. Supposedly there are rumors that Loeb is thinking that a new Avengers should be done in place of EMH to be more in tone with Ultimate Spider-Man. God I hope it is just that, a rumor. |

After watching a few more episodes, I agree now, way too cartoony. Coulson as Principal is cute for a one-time joke but ongoing? Nah. The kids being together in school and in combat is wearing thin too.

Ugh just great. So the cartoon that actually treats the material in a great way, at last for the Avengers really, is not high enough ratings so will probably be canned. All the awesome cartoons don't make it very long anymore, and the really crappy or too cartoony or really dumbed down one's seem to resonate with people.
Yeah I'm betting soon enough there will be Ultimate Avengers to go along with Ultimate Spider-Man and it'll be just like this show. What really disappointed me with the first episode was seeing that it was written by Paul Dini of Batman TAS/Supermna TAS/Justice League and Detective Comics fame. I can never tire of watching those old DC animated shows and love Dini's episodes, this was just...not even a candle to be held close to Batman TAS episodes by him. |

I think there is an fun way to play up more "cartoony" shows. Batman The Brave and the Bold is better than just about ever Batman series except the original but it was far lighter in tone. It actually lasted quite a while too. Actually DC cartoons (which are run by their parent company and not some separate entity) generally last longer (at least in cartoon terms): Batman TAS-85, Superman TAS 54, Batman Beyond-52, Static Shock-52, JL/JLU-52/39, The Batman-65, Teen Titans-65, and Batman B&B-65

Yeah that is quite true about DC shows. Since they don't farm them out they last a hell of a lot longer. Marvel farms theirs out for the most part and soon as something goes wrong or a new idea comes in or a contract change the show is gone. Spectacular was awesome, but Disney didn't want Sony having a piece of the pie once they got Marvel so poof it went.
Batman The Brave and the Bold, is cartoony in a way, but the stories are written well and the cartoony doesn't overtake things. Just in these few episodes the cartoony aspect seems to dominate this. The funny thing is that Marvel has had more overall cartoons I believe with all the various incarnations, but I think DC takes the cakes in not only how long they last but quality for the most part. Everything from Batman TAS up to Justice League Unlimited under Timm and company was good stuff. The Batman was pretty entertaining to me. Batman Brave and the Bold and Teen Titans were good stuff. Static Shock was awesome, I wish there had been more. I'm not too fond of Green Lantern and Young Justice right now though, but I can forgive them as their track record was great before that. Marvel has a slew of pretty short runs lately since Evolution ended. Somethings like WATXM and Spectacular cut down before they could be even cooler. |

Yeh, it seems like the best Marvel shows get scrapped because of "bad ratings". I feel like they should be more patient, let the buzz build up that the show is good, and then the ratings would come. If they scrap EMH for something that is anything at all akin to Ultimate Spider-Man, I will be quite pissed because that will be TWO franchises where they had a good thing, and canned it in favor of something of inferior quality.

Seriously. It's just like the comics. If something isn't making huge numbers right away they scrap it for something else. It's like patience for some things when it comes to some companies went out the window. Cause you can't tell me that every other show that Disney does on their channels are doing that much better than EMH or that they are all out doing it, and they're still going.

To be fair two seasons isn't the same thing as 3 issues. Let's be realistic here. If Disney is pumping money into something and people aren't watching or buying the DVDs, why would any business keep doing it because a relatively few like it? I mean I love EHM. But if Disney (because that's who in control here) feels that the show isn't making them money, it just makes sense from a business standpoint to not keep pumping money into something people aren't watching.
And its hard to compare this situation to WatX (which I have no clue why it was cancelled) or Spectacular Spider-Man (which was controlled by another company so when they moved to Disney, things had to change). The best I can say is to get more people to actually watch the show. Because Young Justice and Green Lantern are killing in the ratings and properly about to do even more money with merchandise. |

I don't understand why Disney put Avengers on a channel that's not in basic cable packages when they own plenty of channels that are. I also don't understand how Nielsen ratings are still relevant.

THese are things I also don't understand... But does Disney have another basic cable channel besides Disney? I only ask because I couldn't imagine them putting it on Disney channel, just because it wouldn't fit at all LOL WB has the benefit of Cartoon Network being apart of basic cable. |
