I hated Agel on Buffy until he became Angelus. I hated how they brought him back from the dead in season 3 because it spoiled the awesome season 2 finale where Buffy murders him just after he regained his soul. Also because he didn't do anything in season 3.
I liked the opening music to Angel. The first season was average. The second season with Wolfram & Hart driving him mad was great because it allowed him to be a dark & interesting character without going full Angelus. It also had a fun interdimensional jaunt to Pyllea. Seasons 3 & 4 blurred into one long depressing slog. Season 5 was awesome beause it's status quo shake-up was handled masterfully. Everybody got something awesome to do. It also had plenty of wacky Ben Edlund episodes.

I agree with you EMP, that last season was insane and that was a real status quo change.
Looking at season 3 again, Cordy was smoking hot... And Xander really gained weight over the seasons lol

I think season 4 of Angel is the best season out of both shows.
I think Wood would've been better with a better actor. I like his concept though, the orphan child of a Slayer.

I agree Kipe...an actor with more charisma would have worked (Blair Underwood? Mekhi Phifer maybe?). The idea that he was the only (so far) child of a slayer should have given him a very unique perspective. I just felt like it was kinda squandered alil.

Hmmmm...totally forgot Dark Willow.
Loved that arc for her...and the foreshadowing toward it over the two seasons before it...

I think Faith is probably the best Buffy villain because she was loathsome, likable, and a real threat all at the same time. I felt very conflicted whenever they beat the crap out of each other. She's also relatively unpredictable, which is why she makes a great villain. I also give a special nod to Drusilla, but I don't think she was effectively used until Angel.
I think Buffy was probably my favorite character on the series, and I didn't need most of the scoobies. Xander? Whatever. Willow? Stop making statements sound like questions. Anya? Well, I love Anya.

I <3 Anya. The episode where Buffy's mother is found dead (whited out for the benefit of Six DON'T YOU DARE HIGHLIGHT IT YOU SCALLYWAG), really showed us what it meant for her as a character who was readjusting to life as a human, how difficult and weird such a huge issue can be for someone to process for the first time when it happens to someone you know and care about.
Xander I liked, but I loved Willow. Willow and Tara were my second favourite couple in the entire series (Got to love the Spike and Dru/Sid and Nancy riff).

I question anyone's humanity who doesn't love Willow. Just sayin.

I do agree with all of this, though.
Faith, Cordeilia, Anya, Oz, Tara, and Lila are my all-time favourites throughout both series.

What i like most about Willow is that we really got a complete journey with her. Not saying you dont with other charactes but her journey for me is more pronounced. We see her go from mousy computer geek into a self-aware confident woman. I just fibd her enduring.
I love how nonchalant Oz was about everything he was so chill.

Mousy characters don't really resonate with me. Sure, she's sweet and loyal but I thought her ability to hack systems was sort of a cliche plot point and I don't think they realistically approached some of the issues a character like Willow would go through. She was almost too likeable. I thought Dark Willow was a joke but I didn't like the show after it left the WB.

I hated Oz. He was just so... Meh. If anything, the one thing I hated about Willow's character was that all of her partners bar Kennedy were designed to be so laid-back or timid that Willow couldn't help but be the outspoken and almost dominant half of the relationship.

So just had this conversation with a colleague...We talk about big bads alot but who are some of your favorite one-off demons, vamps, etc.?
I brought up Mr. Trick but he was kinda sorta tangentially connected to the big bad. I also loved the demon dudes in the suits, I forgot their names...they remind me of the Silence.

Sweet was brilliant. Sunday was fun, the Gentlemen, I liked The First when they first appeared in Season 3, the mad english watcher woman with the glove thing... Oh, and the Judge, if only because he got blown up by a bazooka...

I love when the Judge was blown up. "What's that do?" and then BOOM! blown up.
Everyone loves the Gentlemen.
I always liked that super creepy boogey man from the hospital in Season 2 I think. Only kids and sick people could see him.
I've noticed with all the talk of Big Bads there's been little to no mention of Adam. I actually really liked season 4 and Adam. He's like a frankentsien style melding of science and demon magic that was unseen on the show. I know alot of people hated the Initiative but I loved it. For three seasons I kept saying, how could the government not know anything about demons?

I LOVE the creepy hospital guy. I remember being so freaked out about when I first saw him(I was 9...haha) but I loved it.
Plus Cordelia had some excellent lines that episode. She had some amazing one liners. All Xander's girlfriends did...To bad he was such a d-bag. He should have be eaten by Ashanti(worst episode ever)

I loved Angelus in Season 4. Especially his interactions with Faith, Conner (Illyana ripoff) and Gunn. Drusilla was always amusing, but I think my favorite villians would have to be Lilah and Darla. Julie Benz has come a long way since Jawbreaker... And Wesley was a good unintentional villain during Season 3 of Buffy. Did anyone else notice that he grew a pair after he started banging Lilah and got his throat cut? And Illyria made quite the impression on me.

Anybody else ever sat back and laughed at the fact that all vamps know martial arts lol
And i realized after rewatching Season 3 that Angel was Buffy's Jean Grey. He kept getting knocked out lol

I think that was mentioned in Season 7, BC, when Buffy finally took Dawn vampire hunting. It was the opening sequence of the first episode.
Dawn: "But, he's new. He doesn't know his strength. He-he might not know those fancy martial art skills they inevitably seem to pick up."
