Hey guys, an idea flashed across my mind earlier and I thought I would bring it up for possible discussion here.
I was randomly looking through some X-Men groups and the like on Facebook and didn't notice a single mention of Uncannyxmen.net anywhere. It raised the question in my mind would it be a good idea to start one dedicated solely to the site and its affiliates?
It could be a nice way of raising awareness for the site, providing the facebook X-community a portal of sorts to the excellent resources here at UXM.net. as well as promoting interest in THOIN and the Runaways site too.
I've seen the site mentioned extensively at the boards at Marvel.com, and other comic boards, and to a lesser extent on other search type things like Stumbleupon and Wikipedia and such.
I would be happy to set up such a group and get it going, inform people of updates to the site etc., of course making sure it complies with whatever the staff and contributers of UXN.net say.
I'm not 100% sure how useful it might be or whether it would do anything to promote the site or not, but I thought it might be something people might ilke to mull over!

I'm semi-familiar with Facebook, but not very familiar with the "Groups" feature. Can you elaborate on how that works? Would it just be something that members would "join?"

I don't really see the point. We have News updates on the front page and a forum for discussion here. Why create an outside group to front the same information? And is there really so large of a "Facebook X-community" that we should try reaching out to them? I don't think so.
Despite what Sally Floyd says, not everything needs to be on MySpace or Facebook.

All I had in mind was a group members would join, thus promoting the site to a the facebook community with the possibility of alerting members to updates. The group can be set with a variety of restrictions, meaning only certain admins can change the information provided and what can be added. More for those who havne't heard of UXN.net yet. It wouldn't so much just regurgitate the information on the front page here rather than try to get the attention of the potential audience over there. I looked on a few of the X-Men groups over there and most individual groups (there were around 10-15 possibly more and they had member numbers ranging from 600-lower numbers like 50). Probably over 1000 or more in total. Also it would maybe attract more people to the forum here as well, rather than provide another forum there for UXN discussion. I wasn't intending it as such, though I could see how that could happen. I was thinking more along the lines of a promotional tool than a place to repeat what goes on here. But it's not really a big deal, just something I thought of. And I do agree with you Monolith that everything does not need to be on myspace and the like, I just wondered could it be useful to the site in the ways I described (or tried to).

u could use the "fan" page instead just to see how many uxm viewers and fb people there are that also goes on friends main page so can spread quite quickly, just have a few pics of the uxm logos and link to the website and forum, disable the wall and hey presto instant advertising space
examples of different fan pages:

Actually this is something that I've been thinking about for quite a while, but is dependant on it being able to take updates automatically...
*cough* change is coming... *cough*

A facebook group would be odd because we wouldn't be able to tell who each other were.

There are discussions threads within a group as well as a wall where people could easily state who they are on the board.

I think a facebook fan page would be better than a group, we could leave our posting to here and just be fans of UXM.net spreading the love to all of facebook.

If I join facebook then I can't tell people I don't have a facebook account because I am a dude, when I am asked why I don't have one. (I think I actually have one that I only used once to find an X-girlfriend p.s. notice the clever use of X on an X-Men fan website.)

After about a month of acting glitchy, my facebook profile was deactivated for no apparent reason on Wednesday.

A facebook group or page would be a great idea for advertising the site. I just recently really got back into x-men and the first place i looked for somewhere i could talk to others about it was facebook. We are in the age of social media people. Facebook, Twitter are just as good for advertising as tv or bilboards. This is a great idea and should be rehashed. Even the news stations use facebook on the program these days

Binaryan does the heavy lifting with it by far, though Dean and I also have moderating capabilities.
Do you have a particular question?
