The Marvel chess set is finally being released, sadly with zero brand new characters: http://marvel-chess.com/

I think the collection could have and should have gone to 250. That would have been very satisfying. Given that the collection ended at 200 I think there were some serious mistakes. I remember the collection editors saying "no variants" - i.e. USAgent being a "variant" of Captain America, however they include War Machine, Scarlet Spider AND Spider-Man 2099. Starting some teams too late as well, like Wiccan for Young Avengers. Not following through on other teams - we only go Nova and Firestar for the New Warriors, and only Crimson Dynamo for the Soviets. Alpha Flight was not "complete" without Vindicator, either. I think we definitely needed: USAgent Vindicator Sunspot Monet Speedball Justice Clea Darkstar Shatterstar Rictor Diamondback Crossbones Daken Meggan Sersi Warpath as a special Misty Knight & Colleen Wing as a double-pack Firebird would have been nice as well - Avengers/Rangers/minority Pixie and Hellion for newer X-characters Speed and Hulkling for the Young Avengers Namora for the Golden Age... 20 just isn't enough....

I wanted a Misty Knight/Coleen Wing double pack so bad! And a Groot/Rocket Raccoon one.
Warpath deserved a special in his own right, and I think a bunch of your choices were on the slate for the 201-220 expansion that never happened, Gremlin. We were very likely to get a couple new mutants, Selene and/or Silver Samurai, a Thunderbolt/Dark Avengers, a cosmic or two, Voodoo, etc.
Personally, I think the collection would have been very satisfying at 250, but I know that's alot to ask. Getting through the New Mutants, Excalibur, X-Factor, some of the new teen heroes, GotG, and Thunderbolts, and some of the glaring missing heroes and villains would have been very easy among another 50 plus 10 or so specials. I'd submit that but that's a huge TDLR and a waste of regret.
In other news, Firelord is sweet. I love him.

To be honest we got way past the point where I thought the colelction would end. We have so many characters I have never seen in statue form before like Siryn, Spiral, Jubilee, Cannonball, Mirage, Sebastian Shaw and Deathbird.
That said a number of teams had been started and they will never get finished now. The characters below should have been in the 201-220 collection to finish them off.
Magma Sunspot Warlock Starlord Rocket Raccoon Mantis Vindicator Meggan Fixer
Then there are those characters who I just think were blatently overlooked for one reason or another...
Misty Knight Grey Gargoyle High Evolutionary Whirlwind Brother Voodoo US Agent Silver Samurai
Then add in a few personal wants
Darkstar M Ghost Danger Exodus Bastion
Then of course there are the specials...
Atlas Brood Strong Guy Warpath Archangel

Well, we're almost at the end... got Moonstar the other day, nice figure, but disappointing that her hand slightly covers her face when you have her posed side on.
I think we should come up with the 20 (30?) biggest ommissions from the collection, anyone else want to do this?

The potential line up for the Justice League chess set has been revealed. It only has 4 previously unproduced characters in it (Ocean Master, Killer Frost, Parasite, General Zod). Supposedly we still have time to influence it, so tell EM that you'd like a better character selection: http://shff.freeforums.org/dc-chess-collection-justice-league-set-t428.htmlAlso vote on what kind of specials you'd like. I recommend only voting for option 2 so we can get more new characters like Fire & Ice: http://shff.freeforums.org/what-kind-of-specials-would-you-like-in-the-dc-chess-coll-t426.html Voting for replacement pieces & specials is now open:

I would have preferred one of the other options for the Deathbird cover - this one is too cartoon like.
In other news, Stingray and Wolfsbane are now in my possession. Great figures both of them.

Shaman, Longshot and Domino arrive yesterday. Three more great additions to the collection.
Although, having Shaman up on my Alpha Flight shelf with the others just makes me want Vindicator even more. Alpha Flight isn't complete without her.

Yeah, he was released about three-four months ago here so he should be stateside very soon, if not already.

Gremlin, that Sebastian Shaw statue in your signature is seriously sweet.

DCFC Batman and Chess Batman seemed like they were the same other than Chess Batman's huge base. If there is a diference, I think it'll be negligible. The main difference is the chess statues have a metallic finish. And, of course, the bases.
The first Marvel set is a Spidey one, just like the first DC is a Batman one. There are proposed Marvel sets beyond Spider-Man, including Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men. If the test goes well, we may see them.
Honestly, if they do a cross section, I'm out. The characters they'll use will be ones I already have and don't need more of. Plus I'm sure they'll shoe horn all four FF members in there and I'm not interested in that at all.

I think they might be slightly bigger. I wouldn't get the set but I would get the Brood so I could de-base them and put them on my X-villian shelf for the CMFC.

Are they supposed to be in the same scale to the CMFC?

As much as I like Bloodscream, I'd like to see him replaced by Silver Samurai. I'm excited by the possiblility of finally getting Black Tom & Brood. Are they still planning on doing a separate X-Men set though? The ones that were tested in France were Spidey-centric (& dull) & there's also a "cross-section of all popular Marvel" chess set proposal floating around.

From what I understand, the Marvel set is entering it's France test phase next month... or not long after that. If they do get around to an X-Men one, the preliminary list of figures is pretty cool.
X-Men: Heroes • Angel • Banshee • Beast • Bishop • Colossus • Cyclops • Emma Frost • Gambit • Iceman • Jean Grey • Jubilee • Nightcrawler • Professor X • Rogue • Storm • Wolverine
X-Men: Villains • Arcade • Black Tom Cassidy • Blob • Bloodscream • Brood • Deathbird • Destiny • Juggernaut • Lady Deathstrike • Magneto • Mesmero • Mystique • Pyro • Sabretooth • Toad • Vertigo
We've seen all the heroes before, but alot of the villains didn't get produced in the CMFC, like Arcade, Black Tom, Bloodscream (though I think he should be replaced), Brood, Mesmero, and Vertigo.

I am not sure what's going on with the Marvel chess sets as all seems to have gone quiet on that front.
I too have been spending less time on the SHFF. Since the collections end was announced I just lost interest. I think I'll throw my time and effort into this site now as I don't think it's going anywhere.

I don't want a chess set! *throws tantrum*
Actually, the chess set has characters that the regular collection doesn't, so I may get those. And ones that I think look better. Luckily, half of them are pawns and the bases are about as high as the CMFC ones.

Another company taking over is still wishful thinking at this point. The Marvel Chess set is coming eventually, though.

I've just ordered Shaman, Longshot and Domino.
But only because I actually want to have them in my collection, I'm still annoyed at EM for cancelling this wonderful collection when it was starting to get into some really interesting characters and poses.
I don't visit the super hero figurine forum anymore... has there been any discussion about another company taking the collection over, or starting a new one?

I've kind of switch off this now that I know it's ending. However I am still looking forward to Wolfsbane, Mirage, Deathbird, Hela, Wiccan and Moonstone.
All in all it was a fantastic collection. We have had some amazing sculpts of character not seen before in statue form (heroclix doesnt count :))...Siryn, Cannonball, Mojo, Avalanche, Sebastian Shaw, Snowbird, Jubilee and Pyro to name a few.
