Just wondering if anyone's been watching this? Alan Ball has a pretty good track record, (well, I though both American Beauty and Six Feet Under were incredible), so I've been watching True Blood, his latest show, based on a series of novels. I'm only on Episode 2 so far, but I like it. Anna Paquin manages to make the lead character nowhere near as irritating as she could be, and Stephen Moyer, who I've been a fan of for years, makes Bill a dark, but interesting character. Tara has all the best lines though.

Yeah me and my wife absolutely LOVE this show. Sunday nights are our favorite T.V. watching times. Sookie is the Bomb. The way they have blended vampires into everyday society is great. I highly recommend this show to everyone. The other show we watch on Sunday nights is Dexter. That is also a Great show.

True Blood is on HBO, Dexter on Showtime, and I believe there's an edited version on CBS, because I remember reading about it being complained about, due to the amounts of violence. True Blood has been picked up to air in the UK! Which is awesome news, as I can get my mates to watch it.

Yeah a friend told me that I should watch it and I was apprehensive since I have over 10 shows on my plate this season. I watched the previously shown eps on HBO in Demand and ended up watching 6 over the period of 2 days. I love the show.
I live the way they make vampires look like victims of previous injustices. I agree with the fact that Tara has the best lines too.

I didn't like it at first, but I absolutely love it now.
The characters are just so well-developed. Especially Sookie and Tara.

I love this show. At first it was just okay. The first episode was way over the top but since then its cooled off(still over the top but in a great way) and the characters have really come alive. Tara is my favorite but Sookie comes in a close second. Anna Paquin is really good in it and proves she could have played a Rogue with some personality but alas!

... Right now this is about my favorite show on TV.
I was scared when I heard how bad the premiere viewership was, but apparently it's picked up, as it has been taken up for a second season.
I like the strange, inappropriate vampire stuff, but I'm actually starting to gravitate to the other occult references that are going on. It's all looking up.
Tara and Lafayette are great characters, though, and... Well, I won't spoil for anybody who hasn't seen the latest episode, but there are other interesting characters that are added on as well. (Who, I can only hope, aren't temporary.)
At first I didn't like Sookie as a main character, but I think she has grown on me as well.

Who else thinks that bald vampire is hilarious? I have laughed out loud at that guys scenes. Oh and Sookies brother is also really funny. As is the gay drug dealer. This show rocks. I highly recommend this show.

I've had a look at various sites on the internet, and can't find a release date for the DVD. The first season ends on November 23rd, as it's 12 episodes long, so I do hope that it'll be out shortly after the series ends.

See I was planning on avoiding this like it had the plague...I don't think I could deal with another mopey vampire...but maybe I'll give it a look.
Still I want a series with an actual badass vampire as the main star. Can't he be tortured whilst torturing?

The Series every Angel fan wanted.... The one in which he lost his soul in the first episode, killed Buffy in the second, and then went on from there????? I'd watch that!!!

hmmm I'll definetly give this a first look over the weekend me thinks...though I should be doing work, but heck it's half term eh?
I may start a campaign for a 'badass' TV show:-
Angel killing things
Sylar on the rampage with no whiny 'heroes' after him
Ben from Lost on a mad man spree of geniusness
Dexter finally gives up the rules and the hunt is on for him as he becomes a normal serial killer
The list goes on and on.
All can be interesting :)
Heck I'd settle for it in comics. Give me a good series revolving around villains just being villains and I'm in :) The Marauders in their own series kicking the crap out of the marvel universe and thinning the herd of species in the galaxy.

OK just watched the first episode...well most of it before the streaming went down (anyone want to tell me what happened after Sookie tried to read her brother's mind in the house?)
Anyway yeah it was enjoyable...we have yet to get to mopey in any way shape or form so far. I will (I I can put up with terrible streaming) keep an eye on it.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS.
.
.
.
.
Three things:-
1) This is much more explicit than I've ever seen on american TV shows...not a bad thing just somethign I've noticed. Anyone else?
2) Just on this first episode would I be right in assuming Jason has powers similar to his sister in some way even if he can't control them? e.g. he saw the vampire in the video acting weird and then killed that woman, he also seems to be a babe magnet
3) Sam (bartender) is blatantly a were-wolf right? He could tell Bill was a vamp, the dog turned up after he went after Sookie oh and they made a deal of mentioning werewolves followed by 'I'm not saying they exist'....am I the only one who thinks this?

It's on the channel HBO, which is known for being very explicit. And the director is himself known for creating very edgy shows.

I've never gotten that impression from the episodes they've shown so far. And, SPOILER ALERT...
He's not the killer. Well, I don't think he is, anyway.

Well... SPOILER ALERT.
It's never been explicitly stated, but they've alluded to it several times since. Safe to say he's either a werewolf or some twisty permutation thereof.
Also, as a side-note, I thought Sookie's uncle was going to turn out to be some sort of weird Frankenstein equivalent, to round out the whole "freakshow" theme. (He's not.)

I just saw the first episode. I'm not sure how I feel yet. I don't particularly like Tara, and I dont think her lines are good. I did enjoy Sookie and her brother as well as the wait staff at the diner.
The ending made me cringe though.

@medium: Tara was recast after the pilot. It was originally some actress from a soap called Passions. ... Yeah. The new Tara is really great. Especially the more you learn about her feelings for Jason, her relationship with her mom (who I really like), and how she seems incapable of showing any kind of vulnerability.
@Crutey: I won't spoil Sam -because even in episode 7 it's still a mystery-, but Jason doesn't have powers. The vampires just act like that. I initially thought he was the only one to see too, but I think it was just weird editing. His "babe magnet" quality is just because his body is effin' tight as heeeellllll. lol

There are two pilots one with old Tara and one with New Tara. Tara is the awesome.
The show has a lot of cringe worthy moments in episode 1 and its very in your face. Come episode 2 that decreases and it's a very big character episode. Episode 2 is where I went from liking the show to loving it.
