I'll admit, I had a temptation to do a Fall of the Mutants one in Dallas where you could be any of the X-Men or Freedom Force, playing Naze/Forge as host. I may throw it to a vote.

I almost wish my life was more consistant so that I could participate in these games more often...

@PL-- I really liked the premise for your game. The limitation of characters wasn't extreme, and I also really enjoyed the fact that no one actually got to say firmly "This is my character" before the beginning. IIRC, you tried something similar with the Avengers game, although obviously there was no limit on the number of characters, nor with people having their characters allocated.

I know my last game put a few people off playing who were normally regulars, due to the fact that it was quite a strong theme. I don't plan on doing that for my next game (tentatively titled 'Black Tie', FYI), but I really enjoy that people put their own spin on their games by offering roles, or clues, as I do, but saying that, it feels like it's been so long since we had a straight-up old fashioned BG, that at this juncture, it feels kind of unique now too. I guess what I'm trying to say is that by switching around the themes, playable cast etc, it keeps things fresh, which can only be a good thing since we're approaching 50 games!

Looking back at my games, I lean more towards hosting general themes (space, deceased characters, magic, and my future games the movieverse and robots) rather than specific time periods.  It provides a general pool of characters, rather than everyone in the marvel Universe but isn;t so restrictive as to put people off.  Having said that selecting a specific part of the Marvel Universe can put some poeple off, which is a shame.  I was disppointed with the number of people who didn't want to give my Space and Magic rounds a go because they weren't entirely familiar with that part of Marvel.

Is there someone who has kept track of a "Master List" of BG themes? I have a few ideas for my game but I am worried that I'd be unknowingly repeating a theme.

Repeating a theme is just fine. If hosted by a different moderator, with a different cast and some extra side-rules, it'll be an entirely different game.

Still, you can check the BG Statistics thread where people have listed their past results.

Not just that, but you should also keep in mind that most of the older games were far more serious in tone than recent ones. They only started getting wacky later on.

My game will have a base premise that encourages wacky but still maintains the seriousness of "someone here is a murderer". I can't do pure serious.
Alex I do everything like a hawk.
This isn't DC Comics -- Marvel continuity doesn't die out if you don't water it often enough.
The whole Batman idea is a very childish response to childhood trauma.

I try to go more for disturbing. I managed it quite well in my first (TRIUMPHANT) game as Arcade, I might have to bring it back for my third...

I had fun with the last one, so I'd like to go back on the list. I promise it will be a very straight forward, basic rules Game called X-Force Reunion.
I've got a theory, It could be Bunnies - Anya (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

I think I might just have my name taken off this game and move to the bottom of the list again, Noir just isn't setting out the creative fires I thought.

I'd be wiling to do a Weapon X/Team X/Freedom Force-esque themed game. Basically mutants with any connection to the government or S.H.I.E.L.D. or humans who've worked with them.

I'd like to throw my name into the hat to do a BG one of these days.  Has a Fatal Attractions theme been done?

I was thinking it'd be fun to repeat JanO's "Bring on the Bad Guys" game.

Slide my beautiful robotic face down to the bottom of the hosting pile. I don't have a theme yet.

(Is it wrong that I think I'm going to end up playing Danger as a female Bender from Futurama?)

Unless Betten miraculously shows up to host then I'm next.

In an effort to keep trying new things with the BG I've come up with a new voting system and want some input on to whether you guys want to go with it. Basically it replaces the standard two vote system with a percentage system that lets you have more flexibility. You would get 100 points and vote like this:
Cyclops 75
Wolverine 25
The numbers can be anything you want as long as it equals 100.
Instead of getting to 15 votes or so to reveal someone would have to get to 750 points for example.

Would anyone take advantage of this or do you think you would still do 50-50 most of the time?

I think it would make the games go faster.

I guess you could technically vote for every player in the game in one post.

I would think the points for reveal would have to be higher though. Otherwise, seven people in one round could put 100 on one person and eliminate two suspects per round (one being the victim, one being the reveal).

I don't know, maybe you should have a trial.

It would still be limited to voting for only two characters. Otherwise late in the game one person could conceivably force every single character into revelation.

You are right though in that it might make the game go by too fast nonetheless. Everyone doing 99/1 votes would eliminate characters very quickly.

Yeah, that'd be almost like using 2 votes for the same character.

Yeah. I don't really see the point if you're still limited to voting for only two suspects.

I do. Sometimes you are pretty sure of some suspect and just name a second one because you have to. That you could now compensate with a 99/1 vote.

In other occasions, you have a suspect that nobody else thinks guilty and doesn't vote for. In order to get that person anywhere near the revelation mark, you can give them higher votes. If you'd have to get a suspect to 15 votes nearly all on your own, it's almost impossible, but 750 points ou could get to in 8 rounds of voting...

But I'd allow naming a third suspect, so that you could do a 50-25-25 vote or a 40-40-20 one.

Even if you dont plan on using them in your game, or even if you dont plan on ever hosting, PM me if you can think of any interesting roles for future games (I would rather them be PMed to keep them a surprise for future players). You can see all of the ones I use if you scroll down the rules thread to my post, and I don't like some of them because they are redundant/passive etc. (The Gambler wasnt used in the latest game because its so confusing lol) If you plan on using roles you can of course keep your own a surprise. And feel free to use or modify any of mine.

I would love to see what kind of game Savant creates. I hope she comes back and hosts.

Sigh, she probably has real life responsibilities.
