The franchise was pretty mainstream already, so they should do something really different if they're going to reboot it. How about Spidey in high school in steampunk Portugal?

The Green Goblins are Spidey's greatest villains (the first 2, anyway). Venom is a fantastic idea, and I actually like where they TRIED to go with the third film but the lack of development killed it. Even though Topher Grace went for a different type of character with Eddie, it was still interesting and even somewhat more believable. I just wish we would have gotten more.

I absolutely despise reboots so I hate this already. I must concur with sixhours and say I actually liked Spider-Man 3 the most!
Also let me get slightly off-topic because I hate when the term emo gets overused. There is no emo scene in Spider-Man 3. In that scene he is a confident ladies' man who dances to jazz music. That is in every way not emo.
This reboot will only be good in my eyes if it is done in a way that doesn't directly conflict the other movies such as was done with Hulk and Punisher, which I think there is zero chance of, or if Chameleon is the villain, which I think there is zero chance of.

I personally think they should go with Electro as the villain.
Emo is whatever the emo kids say it is that particular day. I say it's a small town in Northern Ontario.

Interesting read...it really touches on everything that those who are pro-a WELL thought Reboot have stated already but much more cohesively

The hair style, the dark clothes, the eyeliner, the attitude, that's what people consider to be the emo scenes.
I actually didn't mind the dancing scene , or the scne where he's actually like a tool to the ladies but he thinks he's a legends. Heh, I think I'm all alone in that regard though.

So I just heard that the three potential actors to play spiderman will be Zack Efron, Shia LaBeouf or Robert Pattinson,... Really?! just for that I hope the reboot fails.

Ugh! Ditto mutielover!
Really? Mr. Sparkly Robert Pattinson? The thought of him as Spiderman makes me shiver in revulsion.

I agree it's too soon for a reboot
And if the above casting news is true - count me out of this right now. I can't picture any of the above as a Peter Parker. I thought Tobey McGuire did a decent job and though there are plenty of things they COULD HAVE done and, now CAN DO w/ a re-interpretation, I'm just not... interested.

They did good with Tobey. Hopefully, they understand that the basis of the character is that PETER PARKER IS A WUSS. Because Robert Pattinson = I don't even go.

Looks like they're going to cast an unknown and focus on Spidey as a high school student in a more Ultimates sort of way.
This could go either way. It could be too teen angsty or it could be the right mix that Bendis has developed.

Robert Pattinson is actually a decent actor. Check him out in Little Ashes. For him and for Kristen Stewart, I just have to pretend those sparklevamp movies don't exist.
Also, I liked Spider-Man 3 except for Spider-Man. I dug Harry Osborne and Eddie Brock and Flint Marko and both the ladies, but Peter Parker made me gag over and over.
It doesn't upset me that they're rebooting Spider-Man. I liked it when they redid Hulk, and I'm betting the next true X-Men movie we get will be a reboot too. (First Class as a prequel maybe?) Or maybe they'll alter the X-Men movies to make them fit in with Wolverine's continuity, lmao.

Here is an interview that doesn't make this seem any better at all: Marc Webb to directHe has previously directed one movie, 500 Days of Summer.

(500) Days of Summer was cute. His style certainly wouldn't be dark and gritty.

I thought 500 Days of Summer was great! The style would be just right for a Spider-Man movie, actually; there was even an impromptu musical number. Heck, Joseph Gordon-Levitt could even play Peter Parker.

Instead of movies, they should do Spider Man as a live action Tv show like Smallville

A tv show for spidey wouldn't do it. Most of Spidey's villains require major CGI. I don't think a tv show could do it right.

Not necessarily...look at it like this...
Rhino-A big muscle guy in a suit of armor that kinda resembles a Rhino...
Kraven-a regular dude
Mysterio-I mean you could easily make this costume...
Chameleon-A master of disguise...
Green Goblin-Either do it like in Ultimates or just give him a more traditional costume like from the comics...not that hard
Hydro-Man Sandman and Lizard-The only true CGI villains
Venom-Not that hard to mix CGI with a costume...tone him down from the comic version of being all super gooey
Scorpin-Again mix of costume and maybe CGI, or just use a good ol robo-thingy...

I want Lizard to be a guy in a suit like a Gorn with muppet or dynamation help. Not everything has to be CGI. It'll be cheaper and look more realistic.

That is true EmP...there are some awesome costume/CGI hybrid techniques that have worked in the past to look pretty sweet and cheaper without being Avatar

Maybe. But with this new reboot on the way we probably won't see a live action tv show for a long time. Plus wouldn't some tv studio have to buy the rights from Sony?

I was always iffy on both the Spiderman and X-Men trilogies. They were good but could've been a lot better. I felt they were more to introduce the characters to the audience that didn't know them but kept some aspects true to form to satisfy us fan boys. I think they should have kept the movie in line with the comics, either by telling the stories we know and love and squeeze them into a few movies and start something new after that OR start the movie off from what we already know and tell the current/future story.
I think it's too soon for a reboot, BUT I don't think of it as a reboot in the sense of Batman or Superman. I look at the first set of Spidey and X-Men as practice runs of a sort.
Now that Hulk, Iron-Man, Thor, Captain America & the Avengers are all having their first run it would be in Marvel's best interest to do the reboot of Spider Man and X-Men. They are all having their origins told and this way if any of the future movies want to have spiderman cross over to the x-men or wolverine in an avengers movie the characters could be played by the same actors and be signed for long term contracts. How awesome would it be so see a Civil War or Onslaught like crossover on the big screen?!
There's a chance that this could be done BRILLIANTLY. But WILL it?
