Topic: Batman: "Arkham Asylum 2" Posted: 16-Jul-2010 at 10:27am |
It's a given at this point that Arkham Asylum isn't going to have much to do with the second game in this series, as evidenced by Warner Bros. registering several domain names.
Of course, some of the domains purchased could be because of the third Batman movie, but that's still 2 years away.
What is revealed thus far is that the Joker, Mr. Freeze and Talia al Ghul are in the game. I realize the release is still at least 6 months away, but after the way the first game captivated me, I can't wait. I will even be more than satisfied if they don't change a thing about the game mechanics and just focus on level design and plot.

Frankly, I'm concerned that a new one is coming out so soon. It makes me wonder if they have had time to fix the issues with the first one or if they are simply trying to cash in on a successful game. The first one was great, but the boss fights were awful, the last fight being the worst. Also, an incentive to not be in detective mode the entire game would do well too.

I liked the boss fights except for the last one. It's too bad that Bane was once again a mindless henchman.

The boss fights were repetitive, generic, and not challenging. The Croc fight was for the most part a major disappointment. The Poison Ivy fight was the only remotely okay boss fight since I didn't have to fight another Bane clone.
Oh, and the game (Batman specifically) mentioned how Bane was acting out of character because of the hyped-up venom.

I've been playing all day. It's amazing. It's better than the first if you can imagine that. The storyline is very similar to "No Man's Land", one of my favorite Batman stories ever. Definitely a must play.

I don't know. X-Men Destiny burned me. I'm not sure I'm ready to trust a computer game based on a comic yet.

Have to agree. I played all last night and it's pretty phenominal. I actually sold back my Destiny to put towards this game. As an X/Marvel fan I felt a little dirty doing so, but there's just nothing that even remotely compares to this game.

The game is pretty ridiculously awesome. There's almost too much to do for side missions, it's overwhelming. I wanna keep doing them but the main plot is so well paced, I don't want to stop doing that either.

I got the PS3 version of the game as well. Haven't fully engrossed myself in it yet so I'm not too far in. From what I've seen so far, it seems to be a combination of Batman: Arkham Asylum + Assassin's Creed + Grand Theft Auto.
Huge area to play around in, lots of enemies. I find myself looking at the map on more than a regular basis to make sure I'm going in the right direction half the time.
All in all though, awesome game and well worth the money spent on it.

You can purchase an add on pack that makes Catwoman playable. It basically spliced in some extra storylines for her. I recommend it highly, she has unique fighting moves and the story for her is a fun break from the Batman one. You get it free with the Collectors Edition or you can buy it online.
If you'd preordered it from Best Buy you would have gotten a Robin pack - but that only lets you play as Robin for challenge maps and arenas.
EDIT: Oh so it turns out you get the Catwoman code with any version of the game. Just you probably wouldn't get it if you buy it used.

In the UK you have to pay extra for the super rare GAME exclusive "Robin Edition" which is basically the Best Buy DLC.
Got it on Friday, finished the main story last night, now trying to complete the last side missions and Riddler stuff. Cant put it down.

Are there any villains in the game that didn't make it into any of the trailers?

Calendar Man has an achievement attached to him, you have to come back and see him on the days he mentions (they are ringed on the wall planner next to him), Halloween, fathers day, etc... will take a year to unlock

Damn, I'll have to make sure I correct the date and time on my X-box haha.
Wow Azrael is in the game? Is it Jean Paul Valley or the other one?

It's unclear (keep in mind, I haven't finished the game). Batman doesn't know who it is, so it very well maybe the other one, which I think his name was Michael. And Batman doesn't even recognize the Order of St. Dumas symbol, yet Bane alluded to Knightfall happening, so I'm not sure what kind of continuity is being used for Rocksteady's universe.
