OKAY THIS IS GETTING ALL COSMIC-Y and I LOVE IT
-We get some flashback to 1865 with some Confederate soldiers post-Civil War. I have no idea what its about but these guys vanish. One of them is Thorndrake
-Ant-Man finds himself teleported to the base of the Shadow Council, in Texas. There "Fury" talks to a still alive Thorndrake about Roxxon messing things up, and that they must prepare the 9th Legion for a suicide mission
-On Mars, The big armored guy Archon attacks Steve but its interrupted by Worldmind. Worldmind tells them what is going on, meanwhile Valkyrie takes on Nova and gets her butt whipped, then Nova creates breathable atmosphere on Mars.
-Back to Steve and Archon, they call in War Machine to assist them since they know Valkyrie can't hold off Nova. On the way Archon reveals his backstory. Apparently in the pre-Big Bang universe there was the Darkest Child and his brothers, they were the spawn of the Nameless-father. He is "The Darkness inside the Darkness...he is the Abyss". The Nameless-Father has been asleep for some time, and a Watcher created Archon and his brothers to be prepared to stop him from awakening and ending the universe. He also reveals that once Mars was like Earth, but some followers of the Nameless Father created three crowns to cancel the Darkest Children's power. Archon and his brothers stopped them from breaking Mars but he lost his brothers in the process.
-Archon takes on Nova and is laid flat out...leaving Steve wondering what to do to take on a suped-up Nova
Overall I continue to enjoy this book. I see Brubaker is flexing his Cosmic muscle and I like it. Its detailed enough to draw you in, but vague enough to keep that allure of cosmic stories. I'm just wondering whats going to happen next.

The cover for the next issue certainly raising a huge eyebrow followed by a "sure why not?" reaction from me.

Is this a retcon of the Serpent Crown(s)? I thought it was a tool of Set, the Elder God.

I felt that its pretty average; it has this whole mystery going for it...can't say I am liking things going cosmic from the first arc, most of the team is already out and sadly some them never got any panel time, bad move in my opinion.
So besides some of the mystery that got revealed, I really didn't feel that anything happened ya know? We are still where we were left off, but at least this issue left us with an interesting idea for a climax, Steve Rogers and the Nova power...isn't really enough to get me that excited but it isn't boring either.
As I've said at the beginning this to me is very average, I don't hate it but I don't like it that much either...hopefully I'll like the next arc a lot more. Oh one question what was up with the creepy smile valkyrie had on her face? For a second there I thought she was possessed by whatever got Nova.

This confused me, and I'm not sure I like it. This cosmic stuff does not seem like Brubaker's forte. There was enough to keep me going, but some questions NEED to be answered. (Who is this Valkyrie? "Fury"? Serpent Crowns?)
Also, it annoys me that the "oooooh, it's bigger/older/more important than Galactus" device has been used for the third time recently.

I thought about that too Mark...
@JanO- This Valkyrie has been around prior to this book, Monolith explained some of her history in a Marvel U question thread. As for this Fury, well thats a question that still has to be answered.

Once again, this book throws out exposition without really giving us any character work. It's telling that half of the characters were knocked out of the fight. War Machine has absolutely no role in this comic besides being annoyed with Ant-Man. It's kind of sad.
The art is really nice, though.
